GGLF Library Statement of Purpose
(Updated April 2013)
The purpose of the Golden Grove Lutheran Library is to support the mission of the GGLF:
‘Golden Grove Lutheran Fellowship is a casual, friendly, caring congregation, which is prepared to try new approaches and is receptive to creativity. We lean towards simple but deep and meaningful worship and we encourage people to take on ministry and provide opportunity for that’.
The Library aims to make Christian resources available for borrowing, and to promote these resources to the families and individuals of our Fellowship, School and wider community.
The Library will endeavour to maintain and expand a balance of contemporary resources for all ages. Formats will include—books, magazines, DVD’s & CD’s.
Resources will be acquired from funds provided by the Fellowship, Fund raising by the GGLF Library committee, and also by donations of books and other resources which meet selection criteria.
Collection and Development Policy
The GGLF Library will provide inspirational material for all ages, including family life resources, Christian living books, social concerns, reference books, the beliefs of our church, evangelism, fiction and biography.
A balance of resources will be selected on an ongoing basis, within the parameters of the budget and donations. The Library committee will aim to give all ages and interests fair consideration.
Resources may be recommended by any persons involved in the life of the fellowship, with the final decision to be made by the Library committee.
Donated materials are welcome, and will be added provided they meet criteria for selection.
Donations surplus to, or unsuitable for, the libraries needs will be disposed of appropriately by the Library committee. These resources will be shared with other church libraries through the SA Chapter of the Australian Church Library Association or sent to the library at Asaroka Lutheran School, PNG whenever possible.
Collection and weeding guidelines
The following guidelines will be used to ensure an objective evaluation of library stock
· The item should be in good condition.
· It must compare favourably with other items on the same subject.
· The item should fill a need in the library, help maintain a balance, and have a positive ministry.
· Facts should be reliable, authoritative, up-to-date, and presented by a qualified person.
· Materials should have had favourable reviews.
· The items should be limited to those materials which minister to the needs of the church, and exclude those readily found in public libraries.
· These guidelines also apply to donations.
